After an Italian upset over the hosts yesterday (Berlin time), the French claimed the second and final championship berth to arrange a duel for the coveted La Copa de Vida on Sunday, July 9. Les Bleus' senior midfielder, Zinedine Zidane, scored the lone goal on the 33rd minute of the semifinal showdown between France and Portugal to guide the France1998 Champs to another finals appearance. His team tries to salvage its second title after a dismal 28th-place finish at the Korea-Japan2002. The Azzurri, on the other hand, aims to add a fourth trophy to their collection (Italy1934, France1938 and Spain1982). Germany and Portugal battle it out on Saturday, July 8, for the consolation third place.

PS:
The final match seems to be a deja vu for me, comparing it to the 14th-15th century dispute between Avignon, France and Rome, Italy as to where the seat of the papacy must be located.
