Facts Here, There, Everywhere

September 6 is the 249th day of the year (250th of this year and of every leap year). There are 116 days remaining until the end of the year (and 110 days before Christmas). British tennis stars Greg Rusedski and Tim Henman plus Prince Hisahito of Japan were all born on this date while Luciano Pavarotti succumbed to pancreatic cancer also on this same day last year. Swaziland celebrates its independece from the British Empire whereas USA and Canada observes Stillbirth Remembrance Day on September 6 every year.

1984 was a leap year starting on a Sunday. The XIV Winter Olympic Games were held at Sarajevo, (Former Yugoslav Republic of) Bosnia and Herzegovina in February while the XXIII Summer Olympic Games were held in Los Angeles, USA in July-August. The first MTV Video Music Awards Night was held September 14 and 36 of Britain's and Ireland's top musicians formed Band Aid and recorded the song "Don't They Know It's Christmas" to raise funds for Ethiopia famine relief.
